- Good, proven hides, with mirror-glass.
- We stay at a cosy Spanish country hotel with nature and several interesting bird species right outside the door.
- The tour leader will provide photographic advice to a small group that share the same interests.
- We actively contribute to conservation in Spain via Birdlife.
A wonderful bird photography week in the Spanish region of Castilla La Mancha with species such as Great Bustard, Little Bustard, Black-winged Kite, Great Spotted Cuckoo, Lesser Kestrel, Bee-eater and Roller.
We have hand-picked some of the best hides in Europe in order to get close to and photograph the birds of the Spanish plains during this intensive bird photography week. We have Europes best hide for Black-winged Kites, and several hides that have proven excellent for photographing the mating displays of the timid Great and Little Bustard. Other hides will be used for Bee-eaters, Rollers, Great Spotted Cuckoos, Azure-winged Magpies, Red-legged Partridge, Montagu’s Harrier, vultures, Little Owl, Lesser Kestrel and a number of small birds. We also use a ground-hide by a water pool on the dry plain, that often attracts and provides eye-level views of Sandgrouse, Stone Curlews and other wetland birds.
Regular appearances of eagles, vultures and other birds here often provide world-class experiences and photo opportunities. This is probably the best location in Spain for the birds of the Cork Oak woodlands, also called the Dehesan.
We will try various hides on the green spring plains, providing a variety of angles, backgrounds and species. We rotate between hides according to a schedule so that everyone gets a chance to photograph all the most important species. During the evenings, the guide will show images and talk about techniques. We will look at and discuss each others images from the tour. The group is small, so there will be plenty of time for discussion for all.

A wide range of subjects will be available to us, from landscapes to birds. Therefore it is good to bring everything from wide-angle to telephoto lenses. Lenses from 70-200 mm up to 500 mm are excellent. To increase focal length you can use a teleconverter. If you have two camera bodies, bring both in order not to have to change lenses as much. Tripods are almost a must in the hides.
We can count on temperature around 20-25 degrees C by day and maybe as low as 7-8 degrees C by night. Pack light but robust clothing. A light fleece sweater and some thin trousers are good for mornings and evenings. Bring a hat or head protection from the sun.
